At Thorndon Park Primary School, we believe every student has the capacity to lead. From Reception to Year 6, students are encouraged to show leadership in their learning, relationships and contributions to our school community. Developing leadership skills helps students build confidence, responsibility and empathy, while also creating opportunities to give back and make a positive difference for others.

In the senior years, students in Year 5 and 6 have the opportunity to take on formal leadership roles that support our school in meaningful ways. These roles allow students to represent their peers, contribute ideas, and help shape a positive, inclusive and thriving school environment.

Our senior leadership opportunities include:

  • School Ambassadors (Year 6): Represent the school, support events, and act as role models for younger students.
  • House Captains (Year 6): Build team spirit, lead house events and encourage participation across the school.
  • Eco Leaders Action Team (Year 5 & 6): Promote sustainability and lead environmental initiatives.
  • Creative Arts Action Team (Year 5 & 6): Enrich school culture through the arts and support creative opportunities.
  • Wellbeing Leaders (Year 5): Promote kindness, inclusion and positive wellbeing across the school.

Through these roles, students develop important life skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving and leadership, while making a lasting contribution to our school community.
