OSHC
We believe that Thorndon Park Primary School Out of School Hours Care is a valuable and integral part of Thorndon Park Primary School and the local community. We enable children to develop secure and respectful relationships, as well as establish and build on life skills. Educators work in partnership with children, families and the community to provide ongoing learning experiences.
Your children are amazing individuals and we strive to meet their needs in a nurturing and stimulating environment. We incorporate the principles, practices and outcomes from the My Time, Our Place framework to make it the best possible experience for your child. We look forward to meeting you and your child/ren and involving them in our program.
The Program
The Out of School Hours Care program offers regular Before School Care, After School Care, Occasional Care and Vacation Care for the children of Thorndon Park Primary School and the local community. Breakfast is offered during Before School Care and nutritious afternoon tea (sandwiches, fresh fruit, yoghurt, etc.) is provided daily.
After school activities are less structured than those offered during the vacation periods, to allow the children to ‘wind down’ after the school day.
The program’s activities are designed to meet the interests of children aged between 4 -12. Children are offered the opportunity to participate in leisure and recreation activities like art and craft, outdoor games, gardening, cooking and drama. Excursions during the Vacation Care period are made locally and further afield.
New enrolments are always welcome; please call in to pick up an enrolment pack, meet the educators and have a look around our space.
NQF Framework
The National Quality Framework (NQF) quality standard is used in OSHC to improve education and care through My Time, Our Place framework for School Age Care. The program is responsive to each child’s needs, interests, and choices and that contributes to their ongoing development.
Through the use of this framework educators assist children to develop:
- a strong sense of their identity
- connections with their world
- a strong sense of wellbeing
- confidence and involvement in their learning
- effective communication skills
OSHC recreational learning experiences promote supportive environments where children can build independence and apply learning in social settings.
These experiences encourage children to interact with friends, learn life skills, solve problems, practice social skills, try new experiences, feel happy, safe and relaxed.
